Georgian 18k Yellow Gold Turquoise Chased Ring

$ 750.00
- Georgian Turquoise Ring
- c. late 18th century to very early 19th century
- 18k yellow gold, glass turquoise
- Likely of French origin; engraved "Souvenir RC," or "To Remember RC"

This exquisite 18th century ring is finely crafted in rich 18k yellow gold. The lushly carved setting provides the perfect floral fame for the robin's egg blue bezel-set turquoise cabochon. Charmingly hand-engraved on the inner shank, this would originally have been a mourning ring, but would now work wonderfully as an engagement or wedding piece. The replacement shank offers wonderful long-wearing durability.

The center stone is the original glass; at this time, turquoise was an incredibly rare stone coming only out of isolated Iranian mines, so the vast majority of jewelry was crafted in glass. As this piece's 200 year tenure attests, glass can be surprisingly durable and offers a perfect blue color with no discoloration concerns over time.
